Eyek Ntekim

Writer + Content Creator

Hello and welcome to my blog! AfrikanRising is a place where I (Eyek) discuss (complete) health, beauty, and social justice. As a twentysomething year old Nigerian, I'm sharing my stories, from my struggles with self acceptance, to my favorite skincare products.

I created this blog because I want you to feel something, whether that's joy, sadness or a desire to self-reflect. I'm learning and growing everyday and I want you to learn and grow with me. Join me on this journey and watch this African rise.

Okay so it's actually more like 30..but let's get started!

1.) My Hair:

As a woman with very thick, coarse, coily hair (also known as 4Z), I have pretended to love my hair because it was the right thing to do, but I never genuinely loved or even liked my hair. These days, I'm just loving all it can do and girllll let me tell you how much length I am serving.

*Still Trying To Find Out Where a Few of these products can be found in Nigeria*

I had not detangled my hair in TWO WEEKS and my finger was gliding through the jungle- I mean my hair, when I used this product.

8.) Limbo By Colourpop-$6.00

*Still throwing side eye at this company for their poor taste in naming  their sculpting sticks (here is the tea).*

I use this bad boy as a lip liner mostly, because I don't like it on  by itself. It goes perfectly with browns, oranges, creams, light browns, reds, honestly any shade.

All of the ways I have worn it (as a liner) over the past few months:

9.)The Body Shop- Black Musk -Eau De Toilette

10.) Ginger Tea

Not only does it taste great, but it reduces inflammation and bloating, alleviates stomach pain, and will restore your edges. (Okay maybe not your edges)

 11.) Matcha Tea

Our love story began senior year of high school and it will always be my fave, Easy to make, great for blood sugar regulation and  also goes great in smoothies.

12.) Flaming Hot Cheetos (But I had to let them go because I was out of control)

13.) Adekunle Gold- Gold

26.) Letting Go

I had to force myself to do this. I had to force myself to forgive, to accept and to move on. It's still a process and although so hard, so necessary.

27.) Hearing No

If I had heard yes from every opportunity, I wouldn't be here in this moment, talking to you guys. I know it sounds extreme but it's the truth.

28.) Writing Things Down

Even though I usually write one thing and then forget about the journal for a few weeks, it's still therapeutic for me whenever I do get around to doing it.

29.) Calling Myself Out

   Self Explanatory

30.) Calling You Out

It has definitely been a revolutionary year for us. From  unapologetically owning who we are, to making clear that we're not about to be silenced or ignored. I can't wait to see what 2017 has for us, but know this: that two dimensional narrative you all have of us will not be tolerated, so please prepare accordingly.

32.) Trusting God Day By Day- Joyce Meyer

As I've discussed on the blog before, my relationship with God has been quite..eventful, but I do know that this is a work in Progress, so I've got to start somewhere. This book is easy to read and definitely worth it.

33.) You

It’s been almost a year and you guys have stuck around. Yes it’s been a wild ride but you're still here and I cant thank you all enough.

Thanks for reading and see you NEXT YEAR (wth).

What have been your favorite things, people, places, etc of 2016?
